WHAT IS CACH?

CACH (Central Application Clearing House) is a government online system aimed at helping prospective students gain access to higher education institutions in South Africa as well as other related opportunities. This online service was created and implemented by the Department of Higher Education to bridge the gap between high school and tertiary education.

The Central Application Clearing House (CACH) service provides an opportunity for learners who have not yet found a place to study at higher education institutions. This system is helpful in the sense that it protects students from falling victim to fraudsters and fake higher education institutions. CACH is proud to work with statutory and registered organizations.

HOW DOES CACH WORK?

At universities and colleges, CACH plays a huge role in helping learners find a place.

This is how CACH works.

1. You need to sign up with CACH, your personal details including your ID number will be required. You will need to specify the study options/programs you wish to apply for.

2. CACH then shares your information with universities, public colleges and private colleges. If there are courses available for which you are eligible, you will be offered a place. The CACH system matches your Grade 12 results to courses that still have places available.

3. Your information is also shared with SETA for which you are eligible to learn.

4. Where places are available and you meet the requirements, institutions will contact you to offer you the opportunity to study at their institution.

5. The system will send an SMS or email to those who have been offered to accept or reject the offer. After the offer is accepted, institutions will directly contact those who have accepted the offer.

6. For students who are unclear about which career to pursue, CACH provides a referral service for career advice and information through DHET’s Khetha Career Development Service.
