Global UGRAD 2025 Eligibility Requirements:
You need to be a citizen of a participating country to be eligible.
Must be at least 18 years of age by August of the academic year of the program (eg, at least 18 by August 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year).
Must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate in good academic standing at a recognized institution.
There must be at least one full academic year of undergraduate study remaining after May of the program year (eg, at least one year remaining after May 2026 if applying for 2025-2026).
Must be able to communicate in English.
Must be dedicated to serving your community.
Ineligibility for the Global UGRAD Program
US citizens or US permanent residents.
Individuals currently studying, training, or doing research in the United States.
Persons living or working outside participating countries.
Those who participated in US government-sponsored exchange programs for more than six weeks and did not meet the two-year home residency requirement.
Applicants who applied for U.S. Permanent residence within the last three years.
Employees and immediate family members (except dependent family members living separately) of non-profit organizations administering Global UGRAD on behalf of the US Department of State.
Ineligible for local employees of US missions abroad or USAID, during employment and for one year after termination of employment.
U.S. Department of State employees and/or immediate family members of USAID personnel will be ineligible for one year after termination of employment (except for self-supporting family members who are separated).

Africa (Sub-Saharan Africa): Eligible countries in Sub-Saharan Africa include Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger and Zimbabwe.
East Asia and Pacific: Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pacific Islands (Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu), Philippines, Singapore , South Korea, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Europe and Eurasia: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and the Ukraine.
The Near East (Middle East and North Africa): Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories (West Bank), Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia.
Southern and Central Asia: Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Steps to Apply for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2025:
Register on the UGRAD Student Portal, confirm via email, and set your password.
Complete the sections on qualifications, personal details, educational information, English skills, hobbies, community service, employment, and subjects.
Prepare two essays (350-750 words each) on the given prompts.
Upload two recommendation forms: one from the faculty member and one from the mentor/employer.
Attach your transcript, photo ID, and two recommendations.
Complete and submit the application on time.
Make sure all information is correct and follow the instructions to upload the files.

Application process
Applications for the 2025-2026 program open on November 1st and close on December 15th.
Students who apply in November/December 2024 will complete their exchange during the fall 2025 or spring 2026 term.
