The course can be completed in as little as 4 weeks, but you will have up to 6 months to complete the course from enrolment.

Students will be assigned an instructor who will send them a welcome email that will include information about the student account as well as the program they are registered for. Students can expect correspondence between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm EST, Monday through Friday. Your assigned instructor can help you with any questions you may have during the course.

Prerequisites for Enrollment

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is recommended for enrollment in an online patient care technician course.
  • Phlebotomy Career Training’s Patient Care Technician program is designed for students with a minimum of 6 months of experience as a CNA, Home Health Aide, Direct Care Worker, or other medical professional so prior experience is required.

Students must pass the Patient Care Technician Certification Exam after completing the course to earn their certification. Phlebotomy Career Training’s Patient Care Technician program is accredited by the National Healthcare Association (NHA) as well as the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).

All Patient Care Technician students receive a complimentary voucher to take the NHA and AMCA National Patient Care Technician Certification Exam. Students must schedule their exam at least 6 weeks before the end of their course to be able to use the voucher.

Internship Requirements

Phlebotomy Career Training’s Patient Care Technician program is designed for students with at least 6 months of experience as CNAs, home health aides, direct care workers, or other medical professionals. Students must submit a letter on company letterhead from their employer or a notarized resume as proof of experience. Students are required to complete clinical in-patient assessment, phlebotomy, and ECG on a given clinical qualification form. Students need to find and establish their local internship.

Do the online courses require an in-person test?

There are several national certification exams that PCT graduates can take. We offer a complimentary attempt at the National Patient Care Technician Certification Exam through AMCAT or NAH. These exams can be conducted online or in person depending on the organization and local requirements.

How does the internship/ externship work?

As part of the Patient Care Technician Certification Program, students are required to complete an internship that will allow them to observe and/or practice their medication aide skills. Students will be given clinical competency forms by their instructor that they will fill out and submit to receive their certification. You may see this internship referred to as an externship or clinical in different content. They all refer to the same need. Students are responsible for securing internships. Your instructor may provide a letter to help you secure an internship.

Is Phlebotomy Career Training Accredited?

Phlebotomy Career Training is a licensed proprietary school in the state of Michigan and is accredited by our national testing partners who have approved our programs. This means that a student who graduates and takes their national exam will be accredited by a national testing organization and eligible to work anywhere in the United States.
